After graduating from the Philadelphia College of Art (UArts) in 1961, my art medium of choice was fabric appliqué and stitchery. I loved working with fabrics, because my dear Grandmom Bessie sewed. I created large fabric wall hangings until 1990, a time of major transition in my personal life. Feeling a need to explore life issues more spontaneously, painting with acrylics became my preferred art medium for more than a quarter of a century. In 2018, wanting a more direct way to convey my beliefs and life experiences, I began creating printed metal signs with images and messages about hope and peace. The “Signs for Our Times” series continue to be the main focus of my art.
